I need to park for longer, can I extend my parking session?

Extend your active session in the app, or change your default session length for next time.

Overview

Yes, you can extend your parking session if you need more time. One hour before your session is set to auto-end, you'll receive a notification letting you know your session will end soon — that's your prompt to extend it.

You can also change your default auto-end setting so future sessions run for longer automatically.

Extend your current session

  1. Tap the push notification, or open the Parkable app and tap the blue banner

  2. You'll be taken to the Want to park for longer? screen

  3. Choose the number of hours you want to continue parking for

  4. Tap Save

You'll get another notification an hour before the extended session is due to auto-end, in case you need to extend it again.

Tip: Sessions can be extended by up to 24 hours at a time. The maximum may be lower if your space is about to become unavailable — for example, if the parking facility is closing or there's a scheduled suspension.

Change your default session length

If you regularly need longer sessions, change your default auto-end setting so it applies to all future sessions. See Managing your auto-end settings for how.

Note: Changing the default does not affect a session that's already running — use Extend your session above for that.

FAQs

Will extending my session cost more than the daily cap?

Extending continues the same session — it doesn't start a new one. Your charges are still based on the parking facility's rate structure, including any cap rate. If the facility has a cap (for example, "$16 max for 24 hours"), your charges won't exceed that cap within the same rate period, whether you extend or not.

Note: If your extended session crosses from one rate period into another (for example, from a day rate into a night rate), each period has its own cap. This can make the total higher than a single cap. See Why are parking fees higher when sessions span night and day rate periods?.

Do I need to extend every 12 hours?

Not necessarily. You'll be prompted to extend one hour before your session auto-ends — the timing depends on your auto-end setting, not a fixed 12-hour cycle. If you regularly need longer sessions, change your auto-end setting rather than extending each time. See Managing your auto-end settings.

If you don't extend, your session ends automatically and your space is released.
