Overview
You can start an hourly parking session directly from the Parkable app. Check real-time space availability before you begin, and end your session when you leave to avoid being charged for time you don't use.
How to start a session
Open the Parkable app
From the home screen, tap the parking facility you want to use
Tap Start parking
On the Confirm details screen, check that the parking facility's hours suit your planned parking duration
Check that the vehicle displayed matches the licence plate of the vehicle you're driving
Tap the green Confirm button to start your session
Tip: You can also tap Reserve to hold a space for up to 30 minutes before your session starts. See How to reserve a space in the app for details, including the limits on how many reservations you can make in a day.
How charges are calculated
The price you pay depends on the parking facility's rate structure — most use an hourly rate, sometimes with Early Bird, night, or cap rates available. For a full breakdown, see How do pricing rates work with early bird and night rates?.
Note: If you have access to a private parking facility (e.g. through your workplace) and an allocated space is available, your session is typically free. If allocated spaces are full, you may be offered a paid public space — the price is shown on the Confirm details screen before you tap Confirm, so there are no surprises.
How to end a session
When you leave the parking facility, end your session in the app. See End your parking session for the steps.
Important: End your session as soon as you leave to avoid being charged for time you didn't use.
Parking at a different location
If you want to park somewhere else, tap Public parking to browse other available parking facilities.
Note: If you have an electric vehicle on your profile and EV charging spaces are available, you'll be offered one — see Start a session in EV space.
FAQs
How do I know how much my session will cost?
The price for the parking facility is shown on the Confirm details screen before you start the session. For a full breakdown of the rates, tap Car park details → Pricing before you start.
I tapped Confirm but got an error — "Sorry, we were unable to start your session"
The most common cause is a previous failed payment. See Session failed to start for what to check.
