Open an access gate with an hourly booking or permit

Use the Parkable app to open an access gate at your parking facility.

Overview

You can open an access gate directly from the Parkable app. To use the gate controls, you need an active parking session or permit for the location, and your device must be set up correctly and within range of the gate.

If the gate isn't opening, the cause is usually one of three things:

  • You don't have an active session or permit

  • Your device isn't set up correctly (internet, Bluetooth, location, app permissions)

  • You're not close enough to the gate

How to open the gate

  1. Open the Parkable app

  2. Make sure you have an active parking session or permit for the location

  3. Tap the green Open gate button

Troubleshooting

If you are having problems opening the gate, check the following:

  • You have an active parking session or permit for the location

  • You are within range of the gate

  • Your device is connected to the internet (Wi-Fi or mobile)

  • Bluetooth is enabled, with no other active Bluetooth connections

  • Location services are turned on

  • The Parkable app has the required permissions (see below)

Tip: If you've just changed any of these settings while at the gate, close the Parkable app fully and reopen it so the app picks up the new settings.

App permissions

Android

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Apps

  3. Scroll to Parkable

  4. Check that Nearby devices and Location permissions are enabled

iOS

  1. Open Settings

  2. Scroll to Privacy & Security

  3. Tap Location Services or Bluetooth to check that Parkable has access

If your session has ended

There is a 15-minute grace period after your session ends where you can still open the gate from the app.

Important: If the grace period has expired, you'll need to start a new session to access the gate.

Note: If your session ended accidentally, start a new one to get the Open gate option back.

FAQs

My app says "Out of Range" when I get to the gate — what does that mean?

"Out of Range" means your phone isn't close enough to the gate's Bluetooth signal, or one of the device requirements isn't met. Work through the troubleshooting checks above — the most common fixes are enabling Bluetooth and location services, making sure no other Bluetooth device is connected, and restarting the Parkable app.

Why does the Open gate button only sometimes appear?

The Open gate button only shows when you have an active parking session or current permit for the location. If you don't see it, check that your session is running or your permit is active.

I can see the gate but the button isn't working — what should I try first?

Restart the Parkable app. This refreshes your session and your device's connection to the gate, and resolves most issues on the spot.
