Why did I receive a warning or notification despite having an active session, and how can I resolve it?

If you've found warning in your car but you're not sure why

Updated over a week ago

Parking warnings or notifications can sometimes occur even when you believe your parking session is active. Below, we explain the common reasons for such warnings, how to avoid them, and their potential impact on your account.

Overview of warnings

Warnings or notifications are issued when there is a discrepancy between your parking session details and the enforcement checks. These discrepancies can arise due to mismatched vehicle registration, no active session, parked incorrectly or have a session in one car park but you are parked in another.

1. Mismatched vehicle registration

A common reason for receiving a warning is when the vehicle registration plate on your active session does not match the plate of the car parked in the bay. Our field agent will check the plate in the space against the plate on your active session. If they don’t match, you may receive a warning even with a valid session. To avoid this, ensure your vehicle registration details are correct and up to date and your default plate is being used for the current session.

2. Not having an active session

If you park without starting an active session, our field agent may detect this and start a session on your behalf. For a first-time infringement, the standard approach is to initiate a session for you and charge the regular day rate for that location. You'll receive an email notifying you that you were initially parked without an active session, even though a session was subsequently created for you.

3. Misplaced warning tickets

In some cases, you might find a physical warning ticket on your car even though your session was valid. This can happen if the ticket was intended for a neighbouring vehicle and was mistakenly placed on your car. If your session was valid and there were no infringements associated with your account, this warning will not affect your account or result in charges.

4. Parked incorrectly

It's important you park in the correct parking location and space allocated to you. You must ensure you aren't blocking other vehicles, or car park entries/exits. If your vehicle is found to be blocking others you will receive a notification to move your car or it may be towed.

Steps to Avoid Parking Warnings

  1. Mismatched vehicle registration: Double-check that the vehicle registration details in your Parkable profile match the car you are parking (your default vehicle).

  2. Start your session: Ensure you start your parking session before you enter the car park

  3. Report misplaced tickets: If you find a warning ticket on your car that you believe is a mistake, contact Parkable support for clarification.

  4. Park correctly: Park only in your allocated space, use the "Change space" option or "Report a vehicle in my bay" if you need to change where you have been allocated to ensure that your active session and your space match.

Impact on Your Account

Warnings or notifications issued due to mismatched registration or misplaced tickets will not affect your account if your session was valid. Similarly, if a session was started on your behalf for a first-time infringement, it will not result in penalties beyond the standard parking charges. By following the steps outlined above, you can minimise the chances of receiving parking warnings and ensure a smooth parking experience with Parkable.
